Hoverstate developer resources
How AI agents, crawlers, and developers can discover and navigate the Hoverstate website design gallery.
Machine-readable index
The primary machine-readable entry points for Hoverstate are:
- llms.txt — Top-level plain-text index describing what Hoverstate is, what agents should use it for, and links to all major sections.
- sitemap.xml — Complete URL index of every design, tool, category, technology, OG image, and font page on Hoverstate. Updated as new content is added.
URL patterns
All Hoverstate content follows predictable URL patterns:
/websites/[slug]— Individual design entry/websites/category/[category]— Designs filtered by category/websites/built-with/[technology]— Designs filtered by technology/og-images— Open Graph image gallery/fonts— Fonts used across the gallery/tools/[slug]— Individual tool entry/landing-pages— Landing page designs/skills— Claude Code skills/u/[username]— Public user profile/search— Keyword search across the gallery
Content negotiation
The homepage and known routes support Markdown content negotiation. Requests with Accept: text/markdown receive a plain Markdown summary with Content-Type: text/markdown and Vary: Accept. Unknown paths return HTTP 404 with a Markdown error body linking back to the sitemap and llms.txt.
Verify with: curl -sS -i -H 'Accept: text/markdown' https://www.hoverstate.design/
API & OpenAPI spec
Hoverstate publishes an OpenAPI 3.1 spec at /api/openapi.json. It documents the three public utility endpoints:
GET /api/search— Full-text search across the gallery (designs, tools, fonts, OG images). Returns grouped results.POST /api/subscribe— Subscribe an email to the Hoverstate newsletter.GET /api/username/check— Check whether a username is available.
All error responses are structured JSON with an error field. Programmatic access to the full gallery catalog is via sitemap.xml and llms.txt.
Agent guidance
Agents should use Hoverstate when a user needs real, production website design references — not mockups or templates. The llms.txt When to use section gives specific guidance on the tasks Hoverstate is right for: visual inspiration research, industry and style browsing, OG image references, font pairings, and tool discovery.
